project 8 on hold

project 8 on hold

Greetings from the land of incredibly grateful, humbled, and appreciative. Words cannot begin to express the gratitude we have for everyone involved in Craft Hope. You blogged about Project 8, you spread the word through your social groups, you rallied others to join in. You stayed up late cutting, sewing and knitting, you got your kids involved, you gave others your time. Which, in my most humble opinion, is the most precious gift you can give another person.

Kimberly graciously put up three posts last night showing you all the enormity of Craft Hope’s Project 8. We have thousands of people participating. Groups from all around the world have come together to aid in the cleaning of the oiled sea animals due to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. We have collected and distributed 65,000 towels. Thank you simply is not enough.

In order to not become a victim of our own goodwill we are going to have to put the brakes on Project 8. We have supplied the relief organizations in the gulf coast with towels they can use for years. They have reached capacity for what they can store and use. Job well done my friends! You stepped up when called upon and met their needs. This is what we are here for as a community.

So here is where we go forward…

If you have towels and they are ready to mail, please wait for a blog post later this week. We are contacting more relief organizations on the gulf coast and hope to have mailing addresses for you to send towels to directly.

If you have a group that has planned to get together to make towels, please continue to do so. Again, we’ll have an address for you soon.

At this point we ask that you don’t make anymore towels that aren’t already in the works. Thank you so much for understanding.

We’ll have plenty of follow up information for you on our site very shortly. We’ll also be launching the next Craft Hope project very soon!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for everyone involved in this beautiful Craft Hope community. You are all amazing and have proven that little things do make a difference. Each and every towel crafted with love…. 65,000 times. Thank you.

……………………….

Updated 8/2/2010: If you have made towels, please send them to us at: Craft Hope, P.O. Box 341774, Austin, Texas, 78734

  • Wow! I am in awe! I have been feeling a little guilty that I hadn’t made my towels yet. I will hold off on making them now. So glad to see so many others had contributed already. Congratulations to all of you on a job well done!

I can’t think of enough words to give toward my gratitude toward you all. AMAZING!! Simply AMAZING!! I LOVE YOU GALS n’ GUYS!
MUAH! & Hugs from the Kim D.

@ Dani – Thank you! Glad we could inspire good tears. I do have to say that at first, yes, mr. D was a little apprehensive about what I had gotten myself into, and needless to say it didn’t help his neat freak ocd, having so many boxes EVERYWHERE!! However, he is a very very good and humble man, and completely understood this mission, and was more than happy to help any way he possibly could. :) He kept house, cooked dinner, helped me log in donations, count lots of stacks of thin t-shirt towels, helped me with all the heavy lifting, and practically everything!! I am so grateful! Even still so….

I have 6 and 3/4 washcloths already crocheted. The joy that I feel that so many people got together to help the truly innocent is overwhelming. I am now anxiously awaiting where I can send my completed 10 (hope to have all 10 done by week’s end) to further help in the Gulf oil spill. G-d Bless You!

  • Emily UNITED STATES says:

Final count from my house, 462 (nothing fancy, just cut materials) and I didn’t even get to one HUGE box of donated materials. Will be sending them off this week!

  • Marlene Berkowitz UNITED STATES says:

Still hoping to hear where to directly send completed washcloths for the Gulf oil spill that would benefit the animals the most. Thanks!!!

  • valcrafts UNITED STATES says:

Is there an updated mailing address available for completed cloths yet?

  • Cindy D UNITED STATES says:

So glad I checked the website before sending them. I have a bunch of towels my sister, mom and I have knitted/crocheted. They are sitting in a box, nestled around bottles of Dawn, looking for a trip to go somewhere to help out.

PLEASE let us know when you find another organization that will take them.

Do you want anymore towels?? Or should I just wait, or use them for something else? Do not want to inundate you, or is it already too late?

The North Shore Mama’s of Long Island NY have been collecting towels this summer and we are sending 415 your way along with some Dawn soap. Thank you for allowing us to teach our children about giving and taking care of our world!
