shipping concerns

shipping concerns

One of the beautiful things about Craft Hope is that we are comprised of individuals from all over the globe. This also presents a myriad of shipping concerns for those of you who are shipping to other countries. Then a volcano begins to erupt and cancels flights, which means mail doesn’t travel either.

Please do not ever worry that your handcrafted item will not be accepted because of the deadline. The deadlines are simply in place for us to be able to end a project and start a new one. And sometimes, just sometimes we cut deadlines close with the charity leaving with your items. Please know that your item will always be accepted and will make it’s way to it’s destination. Guaranteed. In some instances, it might not travel with the others but it always gets there in due time.

quality control inspector

I spied this cute picture on the Craft Hope Facebook wall and had to share it with all of you. Meet Mr. Buddy, Quality Control Inspector. Thank you Kimberly for sharing this photo with us. He’s quite the handsome fella.

  • Thanks Jade for featuring mister Buddy on today’s post! I’ll wait to break the news to him, since he does have a Prom King sized Ego… this will only cause it to expand as big and heavy as a box of bean bags ready to be shipped! ;D

    Hi Jade,

I’m having trouble finding a good substitute for the beans/rice that I would normally fill a bean bag with. I was going to look through the comments on the original post but there are over 200 of them! I don’t have time to read through all of them, and the only suggestion I can remember is aquarium gravel, but it seems like that could be painful if dropped or thrown. (And lets be honest, even if we don’t intend them to, they’re beanbags, they’re going to be thrown.)

Anywho, I was wondering if you could write a post where we could leave suggestions for different fillings in the comments so it would be easy for us to come back and find all the ideas in one place?

    Thanks!

P.S. At first I’d planned to use pony beads, but when I went to get some (I tried Walmart and Michael’s) they were much more than I had anticipated and enough to fill a full set of beanbags, especially the alphabet or the larger numbers sets, could get pretty pricey. I guess it’s still an option for those with a bigger budget, but unfortunately it’s not viable for me.

Aquarium gravel is what we recommend for the bean bags. Thank you for participating! The Nest, in the toolbar above, is a great place for you to ask questions like this of other Craft Hope folks. It’s a wonderful community set up to exchange ideas about such issues.

I used cushion stuffing and they went well, still heavy enough to fly through the air and noone gets hurt

Aquarium gravel definitely works. I bought a big bag of it for $15. And I use my kitchen scale to fill the bags equally (7oz seems about right for my 5×5″ bags.)

  • thanks for clarifying about deadlines!!

I made a set of numbers (0-9) but then I looked at the pictures again and want to make sure I did it right. The link has the numbers and then the numbers spelled out, do I need that too? and a drawstring bag? I am happy to do whatever but I want to make sure I am doing it right. Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I put an alphabet set and a set of colors in the mail today. They should be there in a couple of days! My mom is sending a number set separately, but they should be there soon, too! I’ll upload some pictures to the flickr site, and I’m posting about the project in my blog, here: http://web.me.com/redshoearts/Redshoearts/Blog/Entries/2010/5/13_now_i_know_my_abcs.html. -Aimee
