Craft Hope is a faith-based, love inspired project designed to share handmade crafts with those less fortunate. It is our hope to combine our love for crafting and desire to help others into a project to make a difference around the world.
Craft Hope was born over tea at the kitchen table. The amazing creations that we watch day after day on your blogs have inspired us to begin this new endeavor.

{project 1}
The first project that needs your help provides beautiful clothing for children in need. We are hoping to collect pillowcase dresses that have been lovingly handmade by women around the world. We’ll also be sending shorts for the boys.
Or as I explained it to my daughter… there are kids around the world that don’t have mommies and daddies to make them pretty clothes. We need to make some for them. Her first question was ‘can I make them?’ And my reply to her ‘of course you can!’
The pillowcases do not have to be new, just in good condition. Our goal is for you to hand craft one pillowcase dress/shorts, or many if you are capable, and mail them to us by the deadline. For the first project, we will be collecting dresses and shorts for the children living at the Pan de Vida Shelter in Mexico and the Davis Lar Orphanage in Brazil.
A little about where your donations will go…
The Davis Lar orphanage exists to provide a home for high-risk children in Brazil. They seek to restore the children to health, provide a quality education and teach them skills to forge a productive future. The Pan de Vida Shelter, in Sandoval, Mexico, provides a safe haven for women and kids with no place to turn. It now consists of more than 30 children whose parents are incarcerated or deceased.
We are also well aware of the needs of children here in the United States and hope to reach out to local organizations as well. We hope to expand and grow as the needs arise. If you are aware of such an organization, please contact us via email.
The deadline for collecting dresses for this first project is February 26, 2009.
A tutorial for both the pillowcase dresses and shorts will be added this week. The tutorials are now in the sidebar if you need one. My rock star nerdy husband, yes that is a term, has been working like a maniac on this site for me. Without him, this would still be a vision in my head. Thanks love.
Also, a huge thank you to Stefani and Susan, who are both graciously allowing us to use their tutorials. Crafty mama’s indeed. Also, coming soon is a flickr group and a badge for your blog. The badge is now on the right hand side of this page. Please help to spread a little Craft Hope. Simply leave a comment in this post if you are interested in participating.
Give hope.

awesome, Jade!! So many will be blessed by this
I just spent my afternoon shuffeling about a hundred vintage pillow cases…asking myself what was I going to do with all of them…
count me in.
Pay no attention to my lack of spelling ability .:)
What a beautiful idea. Must have been a lovely afternoon cup of tea over a simple and beautiful table.
I would love to join – have to add it into my diary of crazy things to achieve this month.
I like your thought process about pretty things – just because these children don’t have homes, and their parents are no longer around – it doesn’t mean they don’t dream about a pretty dress or clothes.
Have to do a pillowcase hunt – sounds like fun in itself.
So stinking cool! I love the idea of your new site and will happily contribute.
Just wonderful!
What a magnificent idea!!! You go, girlfriend! This is just great : )
Oh Jade, this is WONDERFUL! You are so incredibly sweet and brave to organize such a project! I will make it a goal to play along as much as I can… xoxo
You so rock, Jade. What a wonderful thing to do.
I think we’ve probably got a few bandana pants in us… although, I don’t get a whole lot of call to make dresses. I might better take this opportunity!

I’ve already been here and told you I was “in”… Why i didn’t officially state it on here- I’m not sure. Forgive me.

The girliest thing I’ve ever made…
In terms of children to make things for, I’m surrounded by boys. Sons, nephews. But every once in a while, despite my general disdain for anything too pink or frilly, I get the urge to make something feminine. Enter crafthope.
The brainchi…

hello,
I am not a blogger, but have come across your blog and I LOVE it. I am actually crying just looking at it. I was wondering if you have the time could you tell me how you started this whole site/project/ organization and how I would go about starting up an organization like this. I want to reach out to charities/ groups in need of craft items in my area and women who can make it happen. In other words I am a stay at home mom and want to make it my new job to run an organization like this one. Any tips and advice is well appreciated and needed haha i just dont know how to begin. Thank you -Marie Buchanan

Haiti – Pillowcase Dresses??
Do you think this would be a project for Haiti relief? The temps are in the 90′s day/70′s eves.
Possibly in the future! Right now they need basic living supplies such as food and water. Money is the best thing we can give the organizations that are going in right now. We will plan to do a crafting project for them in the future though for sure! Thanks!
